Breaking Habits & Simple Solutions

We need to stop with the sippy cup of milk before bed.  As usual we’re asking our poor ABA therapist how to manage this task.  It seems overwhelming to us.  Every little change in routine sets Payton off like a firework.  No TV before bed…  BOOM!  No school this morning…  BANG!  Now we’re looking at no sippy cup of milk before bed… we know the outcome, and it’s a fit that’ll mean no sleep for anyone for multiple nights on end.  Per the usual, our Axis ABA therapist is right on the money.  She says to reduce the amount of milk each night until eventually you don’t give her any.  So we do that and it’s time, the first night of no milk before bed.  We will now find out how sturdy our house is; and as predicted Payton is attempting to exit the house through the walls of her bedroom via her fist.  We folded like towels after laundry.  She hit the roof, we hit the fridge.  FAIL!  And it was our fail.  Poor Payton needs stronger parents.  We go back to our therapist, tail between our legs, and tell her about our new folding biz.  She smiles and says we just need to let her throw her fit; and that she’ll get over it.  She was right.  We did; and she did.  Moral of the Story:  Kids throw fits; but they need to get through it.  Also, trust your local Axis ABA therapist, they know what they’re talking about.
