Autism Society of Iowa Walk
(October 2019) Autism Society of Iowa is putting on their first walk! Kids get to dress up in their Halloween costumes and walk around DMACC’s campus in Ankeny and receive treats. I am so excited, not sure what it’s about but I realize Jimmy can’t be there; so I ask my parents to attend with me. There’s no way in heck I’m going by myself. So the day comes, and wouldn’t you know, it’s freakin raining. I feel like we’re bad luck. Every time we do something supporting Autism it’s cold and rainy. Why? Insert angry face here. So my dad stays in the car with the girls, and I go see what’s going on. Axis is there waiting under a tent, and they’re all asking the same question… Where is Payton? Of course she’s in the car. I wasn’t going to get her out of the car till we had a game plain in place. As soon as I know what’s going on, I go grab Payton, Olivia, Reagan & my dad. Reagan is their cousin that was with us that day. So I sign us all in and get our shirts. The walk is cancelled, but they are going to hold a little treat walk under the tent. Olivia and Reagan did well. They grabbed one of everything. Payton on the other hand grabbed a TON of bubbles and then tried taking the whole basket with her LOL. She loves her bubbles. We say thank you and talk with the Axis team. They all seem over the moon to see Payton outside of her sessions. It’s great to know they truly enjoy her. In the end the day might not have been as good as it could have been; but we all had fun.
