Miss P’s School Year Now
The school year is going great for Payton with out an associate. She is even wanting to become more independent at drop off and not be walked to the door. She’s following little sister’s lead. We received news that she made the leadership council at school. So proud of her. What I didn’t know was there was a process to being picked. They had to show good leadership skills and follow the ROAR expectations. Well of course our little rule follower is going to abide by school rules plus be a good, kind, helper. It was a no brainer by her teachers that she get picked. I received this in a message from her special education teacher, and I started crying tears of joy. My little girl got picked for because a teacher saw her for her and not her disability. My fear is that she will not be on things, because they see her IEP and Autism. That does not define her. Her first meeting didn’t go so well though. She had a major breakdown due to missing recess for the group. I talked to her special education teacher. I wanted to see if there was a way to prep her ahead of time if she was meeting with the group and missing recess. Of course she came through, and they will start prepping her as to what she’ll miss as they rotate, so it won’t be recess every time. My only wish is she understood how big of a deal this was, and how proud we are of her. I’m sure she does know in her own way. I’m thinking she understands much more than she lets on.
Payton was to write an opinion piece where she had to pick a teacher who should be recognized more than another teacher. Bless her heart. She picked her Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Schnoor! My heart exploded, because I figured it would be her current teacher. I need to give her more credit for remembering. Mrs. Schnoor was the greatest and kindest teacher we could have gotten after spending three AMAZING years with Mrs. Sievers. Mrs. Sievers also deserves a shout out for going above and beyond for her students even outside the school and in the community. She is the first teacher that helped us face our fears of leaving Payton by herself with adults at vacation bible school. Miss Payton is full of surprises.
