Music Therapy

Well we found a place that does music therapy.  The lady came to our house today to watch Payton interact with instruments so she could get a better feel for Payton.  I just get home with Olivia and grandpa comes through the door with Payton.  Enough time for me to see how exhausted she is, and I’m thinking great, she’s in terror mode which means she wants to get into everything, run, jump, and be a dare devil.  This poor lady has no idea what she’s in for.  The lady comes in and gets out her guitar and starts playing.  Payton likes it and she gets to pluck on the strings.  Olivia gets to play as well.  Then she pulls out some drums.  Both girls are loving the drums.  Next is a big green stick that is called a rain stick…  or maybe a thunder stick.  I can’t remember.  It caused a big fight.  Olivia has to go off to her room; because they’re both losing it.  All I can think is that this lady must think we’re nuts.  Payton is jumping off the couch hitting the drum as hard as she can with the stick.  The lady gets wacked in the face by the stick.  I’d be surprised if she wanted to come back.  The therapist then asked Payton what type of music she likes and I help her by responding with Lion Guard, Lion King, and Frozen are some favorites.  The therapist starts singing “Let it Go.” Payton is hooked.  She’s loving it.  The lady is singing and incorporating other things into the song. Payton is responding pretty well.  The best thing was when Payton said “keep going” after the therapist stopped.  Then Payton went over to the therapist and put her cheek to the therapist cheek and said “Let it go.” It was so cute.  I’m thinking maybe the therapist will come back.  Way to win her back Payton; but it doesn’t last long.  Payton is now into major destruction mode jumping on the drums.  I ask the therapist if there is anything else, because she’s hitting her limit LOL… She said she’d be back in two weeks, so I’ll cross my fingers until then.

We have a friend who is certified music therapist and doing a great job of getting the community and clients involved in music activities. Check out Morgan Henderson’s Facebook group Music Moves Music Therapy Services. Also musicmovesalbia.weebly.com
